Notes: | Inquest explicitly for the West Riding, but where places of residence can be firmly identified for taxpayers, all are for places in the North Riding. Some say 'formerly of', but others do not. These people have been noted as being from those places in the North Riding, and all others, with no places noted, as being from the West Riding, although it is possible that everyone listed may have been from the North Riding - some were certainly taxed there in 1440. All the inquests for Yorkshire for this payment have inconsistencies and problems, suggesting that the administration was flawed. Details of people who had moved away and not paid are taken from m. 4 of this piece. |
