England’s Immigrants 1330 – 1550 Resident Aliens in the Late Middle Ages

| Document Type: | tax assessment |
| Document Date: | 14 April 1440 |
| Notes: | Comparison with the account roll suggests that around 50 names, representing one or possibly two more inquisitions, are missing from this file. The mutilated remains of a list of taxpayers drawn up from the inquisitions in this piece, which also included notes concerning payment and non-payment, are now at E 179/158/74. Some surviving payment details from that piece have been added to the notes here, but these survive only for non-householders, and lots of details are missing or illegible. Membrane 16 of the present piece is damaged and incomplete, but many of the missing details have been supplied from E 179/158/74. A section of E 179/158/74 corresponds to at least one missing inquisition from this piece, and have thus been entered into this database under that reference. |
