From the various references to this name (with variant spellings) it seems likely that the records refer to two individuals, possibly a son named after the father - Joyce Hals senior appears taking an oath of fealty in 1436 and is assessed for the 1441 alien subsidy where he is noted as being deceased before the tax's collection; and Joyce Hals junior appears in the 1444 alien subsidy, acquires a letter of denization in 1447, and is assessed for the alien subsidies of the 1450s-60s before being noted as deceased in 1464. |
